2018 Draft Analysis: Allen to Buffalo Bills

QB Josh Allen was selected by the Buffalo Bills. He was an honorable mention All-Conference QB for Wyoming in 2017 as he threw for 1,812 yards and 16 touchdowns.

This seems like an awkward fit. Allen needs a lot of refining of his raw talent, but the Bills don’t really have anyone that has sustained success as an NFL quarterback or a coach that has mentored great quarterbacks. The talent around Allen is questionable as well, with WR Kelvin Benjamin as the only decent pass catcher on the Bills' roster. If Allen starts in 2018, he could find himself in a situation similar to his time at Wyoming, where he didn’t have the talent necessary to produce elite QB numbers.

Allen should see the field for the Bills at some point this year, and his big arm makes him a threat to put up big numbers whenever he sees the field. His accuracy issues could lead to a lot of interceptions, so Allen should only be considered start-able as a bye-week fill in. He would boost the value of Benjamin and popular sleeper WR Zay Jones, but neither would be start-able as a WR2 in standard formats. If Allen performs well, he could spread the defense so that RB Lesean McCoy has more space to run as well as creating a positive game script, locking in McCoy as a top 5 RB.
