2018 Draft Analysis: Mayfield to Cleveland
With the #1 overall pick, the Cleveland Browns select Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy in 2017, leading Oklahoma to the CFP and finishing top 3 in passer efficiency rating, passing TDs, passing yards, and completion percentage.
Mayfield may not have the height and arm strength that some of the other prospects in this draft have, but he makes up for it with his accuracy, footwork and playmaking abilities. He is a born leader and has just the right personality to turn this losing franchise into an offensive threat.
As far as fantasy impact, Baker Mayfield will have an uphill battle for fantasy relevance. He will compete with Tyrod Taylor for the starting spot, but if he is able to win the starting job, he has explosive weapons at his disposal. Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, and Jarvis Landry would all benefit with Mayfield at the helm. Mayfield’s ability to extend plays behind Cleveland’s solid offensive line will allow Mayfield to create the same big plays he made as a Sooner.
