FFLive Tribute to the Troops

Today it is important to remember those who have served in the armed forces. In honor of those brave soldiers, we recognize the top 3 fantasy players that served to protect this country.

Roger Staubach (QB, Dallas Cowboys)

Staubach is one of the most well-known QBs in football history and definitely the best to serve this country. After a successful college football career, Staubach served for four years in the Navy before playing in the NFL. Staubach had a brilliant career in the NFL in terms of both team and fantasy success. While he won two Super Bowls during his 11 year career, he also had 8 seasons finishing as a top 5 QB.

Mike Anderson (RB, Denver Broncos/Baltimore Ravens)

Anderson served with the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years until he was recruited to play college ball at the University of Utah. Drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 6th round in 2000, Anderson had a stellar rookie season finishing for 1487 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, good for an RB4 finish. Anderson retired in 2007 with two seasons as a top 10 running back.

Rocky Bleier (RB, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Immediately after being drafted by the Steelers in 1968, Bleier was drafted by the army to fight in Vietnam. While there, Bleier was shot in the leg, putting doubt on any hopes he had of playing in the NFL. However, Bleier prevailed, finding a role on the 4-time Super Bowl champion Steelers as the blocking full back for Franco Harris. Bleier’s best season came in 1976 where he finished as the 12th best RB, but he still had 3 other seasons finishing as a top 40 RB in a successful 10 year career.
