Waiver Wire Targets: Week 2
The difference in your week one game may have been changed based on one injury or one player putting up a dud. In order to prevent that from happening next week and each week following, here are a couple guys at each position who are owned in 50% of leagues or less according to NFL.com:
Quarterback:
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs – Owned in 37.2% of leagues
Mahomes has incredible arm talent and is a part of one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. There’s no reason to think he can’t explode onto the scene this season after his 28.34 point performance Week 1.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buccaneers – Owned in 0.3% of leagues
Whether Fitzpatrick will continue to start once Winston comes back has yet to be determined. What has been determined is that Fitzpatrick was the top scoring fantasy QB last week and his ability to chuck the deep ball was on full display yesterday.
Joe Flacco, Ravens – Owned in 2.3% of leagues
Joe Flacco finally played like a good QB again. It could be the Bills Defense just being horrible, but regardless he proved that he is at least worth a bench spot moving forward if he can keep up his productivity like he did week 1.
Running Back:
Adrian Peterson, Redskins – Owned in 49.1% of leagues
Peterson proved that he still has some juice left in the tank. The Redskins clearly want to use AP as much as possible and he needs to be on your fantasy roster if he is still available. He will be a RB2 easily if he can sustain this workload.
Phillip Lindsay, Broncos – Owned in 0.5% of leagues
Royce Freeman has been getting all the hype this offseason, but it was Lindsay who turned out as the better fantasy RB this week. He will be more involved in the passing game than Freeman and is worth a stash on the bench.
T.J. Yeldon, Jaguars – Owned in 4.2% of leagues
Yeldon came in this week when Fournette left with an injury. While it has been reported that his injury is minor, his injury history during his short NFL career is concerning enough that Yeldon will stay relevant this season.
Austin Ekeler, Chargers – Owned in 14.5% of leagues
While Melvin Gordon is clearly the lead back in LA, Ekeler has carved out a nice little role for himself in the offense. He has also taken advantage of his opportunities and was able to put up 18.6 fantasy points.
Aaron Jones, Packers – Owned in 38.4% of leagues
Week 1 was more about Jamaal Williams not winning the job while Jones was suspended. If you are looking for a high upside stash, Jones could be a steal when he comes back in week 3.
Wide Receiver:
Tyler Lockett, Seahawks – Owned in 11.1% of leagues
After the news of Baldwin’s torn MCL, Lockett has now been upgraded to WR1 in that offense. He has always had the talent to be a great fantasy WR and it’s now up to him to stay healthy.
Phillip Dorsett, Patriots – Owned in 0.9% of leagues
Dorsett was targeted often by Brady in week one and he hauled in every pass. He has a big play ability and with Edelman still suspended, he could have at least three more weeks of good production.
Geronimo Allison, Packers – Owned in 1.4% of leagues
Aaron Rodgers is back for Green Bay and he will make any WR look good. Allison will be the WR 3 for the Packers, but he will still have weeks of fantasy relevance as long as Rodgers in the game.
John Brown, Ravens – Owned in 2.8% of leagues
John Brown has been getting a lot of hype this offseason in Baltimore. The reinvigorated Joe Flacco seems to already have a strong connection with Brown and he will be the deep threat the Ravens haven’t had in a couple seasons.
Cole Beasley, Cowboys – Owned in 3.7% of leagues
Beasley is one of the most underrated WRs in the NFL. He is clearly the top receiving option in Dallas and he will be a steal for anyone in PPR leagues.
Tight End:
Will Dissly, Seahawks – Owned in 0.1% of leagues
This unknown rookie may not be known right now, but he is about to be. After putting up the most points by a tight end on Sunday, Dissly clearly has become a big part of the Seahawks offense and he should be a top target for anyone in need of tight end.
Eric Ebron, Colts – Owned in 38% of leagues
Despite being the second tight end on the Colts, it was clear that he will be the more dominant receiver when it comes to scoring TDs. Ebron should continue to be a huge redzone asset for Andrew Luck.
O.J. Howard, Buccaneers – Owned in 26.1% of leagues
Howard may be a risky play just based on his lack of target, but his big play ability at tight end will make him worth starting. He is definitely worth a roster spot due to thinness at the TE position this season.
Kicker:
Brandon McManus, Broncos – Owned in 6.3% of leagues
McManus has a great advantage of being able to play eight of his games in Denver. That will give him a lot of chances for long field goals this season.
Adam Vinatieri, Colts – Owned in 12.9% of leagues
The oldest player in the NFL proved week 1 that he can still kick it. With a much improved Colts offense this season, he could become one of the most consistent kickers in the league.
Ryan Succop – Owned in 4% of leagues
Succop was impressive in week 1 after making two long field goals. He is a veteran in the league and it would not be surprising if he continues to see a lot of work if the Titans can’t score TDs.
Defense:
Chicago Bears Defense – Owned in 23.5% of leagues
While they did blow a big lead to Rodgers on Sunday night, the Bears showed how dangerous they could be this year. Khalil Mack has completely revamped this defense to a whole new level.
Cleveland Browns Defense – Owned in 3.9% of leagues
The Browns defense was a big surprise this past weekend. They held the Steelers offense relatively in check in addition to forcing numerous turnovers. If they continue to produce at this level, they will become a very popular pickup.
Cincinnati Bengals Defense – Owned in 12% of leagues
The Bengals Defense had a solid week one against Andrew Luck. They have a lot of playmakers who can force turnovers and score like they did this week.
