Defense Streamers: Week 2
Streaming defenses is one of the more common practices among fantasy football users. One of the primary reasons for that is the fact you can start an average defense as long as they are playing against a sub-par offense and they will outperform their typical production. Alternatively, even some of the best defenses can struggle when faced with a top offense. Here we will be looking at defenses that are owned in less than 15% of leagues according to NFL.com and why their matchups make them ideal starts this week.
Washington Redskins Defense:
Owned Percentage: 4.9%
Matchup: Indianapolis Colts
Analysis: The Redskins had a great week defensively against the Arizona Cardinals last week. With the upcoming matchup against the Colts this week, they have a chance to do even better. The Colts offensive line is still a work-in-progress and the Bengals showed there are still weaknesses that can be exploited despite Luck returning. Starting a defense against Luck can be risky due to his ability to carry a team, but it will take more than just one player against an improved Redskins team this season.
New York Jets Defense:
Owned Percentage: 9.3%
Matchup: Miami Dolphins
Analysis: The Jets defense was the highest scoring DEF in week 1. They made a solid Lions offense look like they don’t even deserve to be on the same field as them. With an even easier matchup this week against the Miami Dolphins, this should be an easy pickup and start for any fantasy owners who prefer to go week by week with their defense. Tannehill threw two picks in week one and don’t be surprised when the Jets start giving him trouble this week.
Atlanta Falcons Defense:
Owned Percentage: 6.4%
Matchup: Carolina Panthers
Analysis: The Falcons defense had a solid week 1 given they were going up against the defending Super Bowl champs. This matchup should be much better for Atlanta. The Panthers lost a big asset in Greg Olsen last week and they could struggle moving the ball without a true #1 WR. The Falcons should be available in most leagues and they should have a great week as long as they have a plan to contain Cam Newton.
