Early Waiver Wire Favorites - Week 4
How about Mitchell Trubisky really taking it to the Buccaneers? How about the Rams getting 3 different receivers over 100 receiving yards? Or Marcus Mariota nearly tripling his total from weeks 1-3 combined against the Eagles? 6 QB’s scored more than 30 fantasy points! Week 4 was another great week to be a football fan and it isn’t even over yet. So far this season, we’ve published an article each Sunday night detailing our favorite early waiver wire targets, looking specifically at guys owned in less than 10% of leagues. As the season has progressed, the men have separated themselves from the boys. The majority of impressive players are now owned a quarter of the way through the season, so for this week, we’re going to use 20% as the benchmark. Here are our early waiver wire favorites owned in 20% or less of leagues:
Marcus Mariota – QB, Tennessee Titans
Owned in 20.3% of leagues
As mentioned in the intro, Mariota had an incredible game today. He threw for 344 yards and 2 TD’s on his way to a 29-point performance. He also ran for 46 yards and a TD. Today was his first full game under new OC Matt LaFleur, and if it’s any sign of what’s to come, the Titans could be in for a lot of celebrating.
Mike Davis – RB, Seattle Seahawks
Owned in .1% of leagues
With Carson out against the Cardinals, Davis got the start over Rashaad Penny and made the most of his opportunity. He took 21 carries for 101 yards and 2 TD’s, and also caught 4 passes for 23 yards. This is the best performance by a Seattle RB in quite some time, and could inspire a shakeup in the Seahawks backfield.
Nyheim Hines – RB, Indianapolis Colts
Owned in 15.5% of leagues
While no Colts RB has found consistent success running the football this year, Hines proved today that he has some value as a pass catcher out of the backfield. He caught 9 passes for 63 yards and 2 TD’s – a 19-point fantasy performance, 6 more than he had combined going into week 4. The Colts could try to get him more involved in the passing game going forward.
Mitchell Trubisky – QB, Chicago Bears
Owned in 19.4% of leagues
Mitchell Trubisky, after throwing for 2 TD’s through the first 3 games, threw 6 against the Bucs in week 4. He threw for 354 yards, looked comfortable in the pocket, and found 5 different receivers for scores. He averaged 13.6 yards per attempt on Sunday, and it seems that Matt Nagy is ready to start letting Mitch air it out. Is this the Mitchell Trubisky the Bears were so desperate to move up 1 pick and draft?
Dede Westbrook – WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Owned in 12.4% of leagues
Westbrook, through 4 weeks, is leading the Jaguars in both catches and receiving yards, and just caught 9 of his 13 targets for 130 yards on Sunday. He has gone over 50 yards in 3 games and over 80 twice, while catching at least 3 passes in all 4 games. He’s become the most reliable member of the Jags WR corps, and is definitely worth a look in deeper leagues.
