Defense Streamers: Week 6
Streaming defenses is one of the more common practices among fantasy football users. One of the primary reasons for that is the fact you can start an average defense as long as they are playing against a sub-par offense and they will outperform their typical production. Alternatively, even some of the best defenses can struggle when faced with a top offense. Here we will be looking at defenses that are owned in less than 15% of leagues according to NFL.com and why their matchups make them ideal starts this week.
Green Bay Packers
Owned Percentage: 47.2%
Matchup: San Francisco 49ers
Analysis: The 49ers' offense has had a really tough time with injuries this year. After losing their star QB Jimmy Garoppolo, their offense has just not had the same firepower. Starting RB Matt Breida is also unlikely to play this week. Although C.J. Beathard has been decent from a fantasy perspective, he has definitely struggled with turnovers this year throwing four interceptions in just two games. Look for the young Packers' defense to take advantage of those struggles and get a top 5 defensive week this week.
New York Jets
Owned Percentage: 18.2%
Matchup: Indianapolis Colts
Analysis: If last week was any indication what what’s to come, the Jets' defense could be in for a field day this week. Outside of Andrew Luck, the Colts have struggled in just about every offensive position. The WRs are unproven with T.Y. Hilton not yet returning from injury. The RBs have done a decent job, but not enough to take the defensive focus away from the passing game. Already as the number three defense in fantasy this year, a good matchup like this could lead to excellent results for the Jets.
Dallas Cowboys
Owned Percentage: 14.6%
Matchup: Jacksonville Jaguars
Analysis: The Cowboys will be going up against a Jaguars' offense who is still missing Leonard Fournette. When Bortles was put in a situation last week where he was trying to play from behind, he struggled significantly and threw four interceptions. The Cowboys' defense has not been anything spectacular this season, but as we all know, a good matchup can make even a decent defense look great. Expect the pass rush to be too much for Bortles and cause a couple turnovers.
