Early Waiver Wire Favorites - Week 6
As you returning readers know, I like to start this article by talking about some of the surprises from around the league. This week, nothing was more surprising than the Brocketship. Brock Osweiler was named the week 6 starter just this morning and came out against the Bears, considered one of the league's better defenses, and completed 64% of his passes for 380 yards and 3 TD's on his way to an OT win. Russell Wilson looked like Russell Wilson again, throwing for over 200 yards for just the 3rd time this year. There were some fantastic divisional matchups today, such as the Bucs vs. Falcons and the Steelers vs. Bengals. I could keep going, but that's not the reason we're here. We're here to recap some strong fantasy performances and guys who are worth rostering, despite being currently owned in less than 20% of fantasy leagues. Here are our early waiver wire favorites from week 6.
Frank Gore – RB, Miami Dolphins
Owned in 11.8% of leagues
For the 4th straight week, Frank Gore received more carries than Kenyan Drake. In week 6, he took his 15 carries for 101 yards while adding an 18-yard reception. Drake will not disappear even with Gore’s increased workload as he’s used quite a bit in the passing game, but he’s now the primary ball carrier and is absolutely worth rostering.
Albert Wilson – WR, Miami Dolphins
Owned in 6% of leagues
Albert Wilson, for the 3rd straight week, set a season high for himself in receptions. Today, he took his 6 catches for 155 yards and 2 TD’s against a solid Bears defense. His increased role in the offense and his playmaking ability make him worth a roster spot, at least at the end of the bench.
Terrelle Pryor – WR, New York Jets
Owned in 1.4% of leagues
Pryor also set a season high for himself in receptions on Sunday, catching 5 passes for 57 yards. He also scored for the second week in a row. He has averaged 9.5 standard fantasy points over the last 2 weeks, and it seems that his rapport with Darnold is really starting to develop.
Cole Beasley – WR, Dallas Cowboys
Owned in 8.4% of leagues
While there isn’t a ton of fantasy football excitement among the Dallas WR’s, Cole Beasley changed that today. He caught 9 passes for 101 yards and 2 TD’s in an absolute blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. While he isn’t a trustworthy starter just yet, a player who leads his team in receiving yards, leads the WR’s in both targets and receptions, and is tied for the team lead in receiving TD’s is definitely worth rostering.
Buffalo Bills D/ST
Owned in 8.8% of leagues
To keep things interesting, I’ve decided to throw a defense into the mix in week 6, and that defense is the Buffalo Bills. The Bills D/ST has finished above 0 fantasy points in every week this season except for week 1. These positive performances have come against solid offenses, like the Vikings (16 points), the Packers (3), and the Texans (16). They play the Colts next week, who are allowing an average of 7 fantasy PPG to opposing defenses, 1.5 points higher than the league average.
