Injury Recap: Week 6
While no one wants it to happen, each week players are bound to go down with injuries. In each weekly Injury Recap article, we will go over the fantasy relevant players that got injured, how significant each injury is, and which players will benefit/suffer from this injury.
Josh Allen (QB, Buffalo Bills)
Injury: Elbow, undisclosed
Josh Allen is reportedly week-to-week after injuring his elbow in Sunday’s game against the Texans. Allen was not a reliable starter in fantasy, but if he misses time, Nathan Peterman will return as starting QB for the Bills. If that’s the case, any defense going up against the Bills is a must start.
Ryan Tannehill (QB, Miami Dolphins)
Injury: Arm, soreness
Ryan Tannehill was surprisingly sat for Sunday’s matchup vs the Bears due to arm soreness that needed more rest than previously anticipated. Tannehill’s status is uncertain for next week, and at this point it’s hard to tell when his arm will be 100%. Brock Osweiler filled in admirably for Tannehill against a strong Bears Defense, but counting on Osweiler to perform again if Tannehill is forced to miss time is questionable. Starting any of the Dolphins WRs was risky and unpredictable before Tannehill went down, so the smart move would be to keep them on the bench if Osweiler gets the start next week.
Cooper Kupp (WR, Los Angeles Rams)
Injury: Knee, MCL Sprain
After getting carted off the field with a scary-looking leg injury, it was confirmed that Cooper Kupp suffered a sprained MCL. It’s being reported that he “could miss some time”, which seems likely considering a sprained MCL is usually a multiple week injury. The fact that the Rams have yet to rule him out for next week though is good news for Kupp owners. If he is forced to miss time, look for Josh Reynolds to fill his spot as the 3rd WR in the starting lineup.
Amari Cooper (WR, Oakland Raiders)
Injury: Head, Concussion
Amari Cooper was forced out of the blowout in London due to a concussion. That injury adds to more serious concerns for Cooper and Cooper owners, considering his production has been lackluster and the Raiders are actively trying to trade him. Even if Cooper can play next week, his inconsistent production makes him too risky of a start.
Quincy Enunwa (WR, New York Jets)
Injury: Ankle, High Ankle Sprain
The Jets won an exciting game against the Colts this weekend, but it looks like they’ll have to build on their momentum without Quincy Enunwa. Enunwa sustained a high ankle sprain in the game, which will sideline him for the next 3-4 weeks. Despite failing to make a splash in fantasy, his high target share will now be split among other players. Jermaine Kearse looked to be the biggest beneficiary of Enunwa’s absence, getting a team-high 10 targets. Kearse is a risky play that could be worth starting in Enunwa’s absence if you need a bye week receiver.
Calvin Ridley (WR, Atlanta Falcons)
Injury: Ankle, Bone bruise
Luckily for Calvin Ridley owners, Ridley’s injury isn’t serious. He was forced to leave the Falcons game on Sunday with an ankle injury, but tests indicate that it is only a bone bruise. It’s unclear whether he’ll be available to play next week, but leaving him in your lineup could be risky considering the Falcons play on Monday Night against the Giants.
Mohamed Sanu (WR, Atlanta Falcons)
Injury: Hip, undisclosed
Mohamed Sanu left Sunday’s game after aggravating a hip injury he was dealing with earlier in the week, but he was able to catch a touchdown before getting sidelined. Sanu, like Ridley, will likely carry a questionable designation into Monday Night’s game. If neither of them play, Austin Hooper should be considered a startable tight end as the team’s main red zone threat.
Matt Bryant (K, Atlanta Falcons)
Injury: Hamstring, Strained Hamstring
Matt Bryant is unlikely to play next week against the Giants thanks to a strained hamstring sustained in Sunday’s game vs the Bucs. The Falcons haven’t signed an additional kicker yet, but starting any new kicker on a team is always a risky play, even kicking for the high-powered Falcons offense. Matt Bryant owners will likely have to look for other options to fill the void this week.
