Early Waiver Wire Favorites - Week 7
Well everyone, it's that time of the week again. Time to recap some of the craziness that is NFL 2018 prior to jumping into our early waiver wire favorites. Again, we're going to start with the Browns. I don't know who all tuned in, but the Browns went to overtime...again. For the 4th time in 7 weeks! They failed to come out with a win again, and now Hue Jackson is really on the hot seat, and it's going around that he may be out of a job prior to their week 11 bye if things don't turn around quickly. Kevin White of the Chicago Bears caught a Hail Mary on the 1-yard line as time expired to cement a 7-point loss to the Patriots...a game where Mitchell Trubisky looked like one of the league's best RB's. The Jacksonville Jaguars, a once elite defense, have given up 90 points over the last 3 weeks as they've lost 3 in a row. Houston is now in first place in the AFC South at 4-3 after starting this season 0-3. Todd Gurley already has 14 touchdowns this year, and is on pace for 32, which would top LaDainian Tomlinson's 28 TD record set in 2006 by 4. I don't think we can find anything crazier than that. But let's get to the meat and potatoes. Here are our week 7 early waiver wire favorites!
Danny Amendola – WR, Miami Dolphins
Owned in 24.4% of leagues
Amendola has posted his two best games of the year with the Brocketship under center. He has combined for 14 catches for 143 yards and 1 TD over the last two weeks, a total of 19 fantasy points after amassing just 15 over the first 5 weeks. He’s the leading receiver in Miami over those two weeks, and with Tannehill still week-to-week, Amendola is a viable flex option going forward.
Kapri Bibbs – RB, Washington Redskins
Owned in 0.9% of leagues
Bibbs took 2 carries for 13 yards and caught 4 passes for 43 yards and a TD in the week 7 win over Dallas. He’s the replacement for either Thompson or Peterson when they can’t play, and they both find themselves on the injury report fairly often. The coaches clearly trust him to make plays, and he’s definitely worth a bench spot at the least.
Tyrell Williams – WR, San Diego Chargers
Owned in 8.4% of leagues
I put Williams in my Stay Away list this week, stating that 3/118/2 wasn’t a sustainable level of production. He went today for 4/118/1, so I was a little bit right but he still showed he can make plays. The Chargers are a consistently productive offense, and Williams is clearly the deep threat. He’s primarily a Hail Mary play right now, but as he continues to produce like this, he’ll earn more looks from Philip Rivers.
Chris Ivory – RB, Buffalo Bills
Owned in 9.0% of leagues
McCoy left Sunday’s game very early on and is now in the concussion protocol. In his absence, Ivory took 16 carries for 81 yards and also caught 3 passes for 25 yards. Not quite a workhorse, but an every down back playing behind a starter who has been consistently dealing with injuries this year is worth a roster spot.
Michael Roberts – TE, Detroit Lions
Owned in 0.0% of leagues
The TE position has been crazy thin this year, and for that reason, Michael Roberts is on the early waiver favorites list. Roberts caught 3 passes for 48 yards and 2 TD’s on Sunday against the Dolphins, who were a top-10 defense against fantasy TE’s. Roberts had missed their last 3 games and made his presence felt when he came back. His target share has been low, but he has scored on 3 of his 4 catches. This TD rate makes Roberts relevant at what is a weak position in 2018.
