Defense Streamers: Week 8

Streaming defenses is one of the more common practices among fantasy football users. One of the primary reasons for that is the fact you can start an average defense as long as they are playing against a sub-par offense and they will outperform their typical production. Alternatively, even some of the best defenses can struggle when faced with a top offense. Here we will be looking at defenses that are owned in less than 15% of leagues according to NFL.com and why their matchups make them ideal starts this week.

Washington Redskins

Owned Percentage: 8.9%

Matchup: New York Giants

Analysis: Even against some of the worst defenses in the NFL, the Giants have continued to struggle on offense. Most of the issues have been with the O-Line and Eli Manning not being able to sustain a consistent passing attack. The Giants have given up the 7th most points against fantasy defenses this season. Look for a team like the Redskins to continue their strong defensive showing in what should be a key division matchup.

Detroit Lions

Owned Percentage: 7.8%

Matchup: Seattle Seahawks

Analysis: The Lions are far from an elite defense, but they have remained consistent this season. Unlike many other teams, the Lions have gotten positive fantasy points in every week this season. A matchup against the Seahawks this week boasts well for them to continue that streak. They may not get you double digit fantasy points like some of the other teams, but anyone who has started a negative defense this season knows how valuable it can be to get anything from a defense.

Cincinnati Bengals

Owned Percentage: 8.4%

Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Analysis: The Bengals’ defense has had its struggles throughout this season like their most recent game against KC. Fortunately, they play the Buccaneers who have been prone to turning over the football throughout this season. The Bucs have given up the 9th most points to fantasy defenses so far. Expect the Bengals to come back strong this week and cause some issues for Jameis Winston and the rest of the Bucs’ offense.
