Hail Mary: Week 8
Hail Mary is a play that most people won't even attempt. It is one of those last resort efforts to win. With this article, we would like to point out 4 players in which we expect to be x-factor players. Players that can do great any given week even if it’s just because of one play. These players are also each started in under 15% of leagues according to NFL.com. Here are the four big time players that could could make a difference maker in your lineup this week:
RBs:
Doug Martin:
Start Percentage: 8.0%
Matchup: Indianapolis Colts
Analysis: With the injury to Marshawn Lynch, Doug Martin will be the primary ball carrier for the Raiders. Jon Gruden referred to Martin as a "feature back" Wednesday and expect him to be used like it this week. The Colts defense has not been very great this year and with the Raiders struggling to get the passing game going, look for them to run the ball often in the beginning of the game. Expect 80 plus yards and a TD for the return of Muscle Hamster.
Raheem Mostert:
Start Percentage: 2.3%
Matchup: Arizona Cardinals
Analysis: Raheem is one player that is a big upside pick that will also come with significant risk. If Breida is unable to go, Mostert has done enough the past couple games to be considered the number two RB for the 49ers. He has been extremely efficient when given the chance and that trend should continue against a Cardinals’ defense that has allowed the most fantasy points to RBs this season. Assuming Breida cannot go or is limited, expect Mostert to get over 100 total yards.
WRs:
Christian Kirk:
Start Percentage: 2.2%
Matchup: San Francisco 49ers
Analysis: Christian Kirk has been consistently a factor in what has been a disappointing Cardinals’ offense. He has at least 50 yards receiving in four of the last five weeks. Going up against a 49ers’ defense that has allowed the 10th most points to fantasy WRs this season and implementing a new offense should give Kirk more opportunities to showcase his talents and lead to a productive fantasy day. Expect Kirk to get over 50 yards again and a TD in what could end up being a high scoring game.
Taylor Gabriel:
Start Percentage: 4.2%
Matchup: New York Jets
Analysis: Taylor Gabriel is one player who epitomizes the idea of a Hail Mary player. Since he relies heavily on the deep ball, he could be a high upside low floor player that can win you your fantasy week. He was able to get over 100 yards receiving in two of the last three weeks and his tendency for big plays should allow him more chances this week. Expect 80 yards receiving if the Bears can find him on a deep ball this week.
