2019 Draft Analysis: Dwayne Haskins to Washington
With the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Redskins select quarterback Dwayne Haskins from Ohio State. Haskins broke out onto the national scene in 2018, topping all collegiate QBs with 4,831 passing yards and 50 touchdown passes while leading the Buckeyes to a Big 10 Championship.
The Ohio State QB is generally seen as the 2nd best quarterback in this class thanks to his production throughout the year and his noticeable growth down the stretch against tough defenses, but critics point out his underwhelming athleticism and few career starts as signs that he might not be the player many project him to be. A favorable comparison for Haskins is Tom Brady, due to their similarities as pure pocket passers, maneuverability in the pocket despite lacking athleticism, and their success in making progression reads and taking what defenses give them. With Alex Smith expected to be sidelined for the 2019 season, Haskins will look to beat out Case Keenum for the starting QB gig.
Haskins was a steal for the Redskins and is another guy who is worth a late round flier in fantasy drafts. Although his receiving options aren't ideal (Paul Richardson, Josh Doctson, and the injury prone Jordan Reed), the return of Derrius Guice to the offense should take some pressure off early on and give him an opportunity to thrive- an RG3-esque rookie season could be in the works for Haskins.
