Draft Analysis: T.J. Hockenson to Detroit
With the 8th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Lions selected the tight end T.J. Hockenson out of Iowa. Hockenson had a stellar 2018 collegiate season, culminating with the John Mackey award as the nation's best tight end.
Hockenson is close to one of the most complete prospects in the entire draft. He's one of the few TE prospects in the past couple years that can both block and threaten the defense down the field. The well-rounded nature of Hockenson's game, punctuated by game-changing ability, compares favorably to Travis Kelce's skill set. Considering the Lions decided to spend another first round pick on a TE (cc: Eric Ebron 2014- 10th overall), they clearly have big plans for Hockenson in their offense.
Hockenson will serve as a multi-dimensional threat for Matthew Stafford as a capable blocker and receiver. His addition will stand to benefit Kerryon Johnson in the running game and open up Kenny Golladay on the outside. In a league where there are so few viable TEs in fantasy, Hockenson has the sleeper potential to be a top 10 TE in 2019.
